Video game console Essay Example for Free

Video game console Essay A video game is an electronic game that involves human interaction with a user interface to generate visual feedback on a video device. The word video in video game traditionally referred to cathode ray tube (CRT) display device, but it now implies any type of display device that can produce two or three dimensional images. The electronic systems used to play video games are known as platforms; examples of these are personal computers and video game consoles . These platforms range from large mainframe computers to small handheld devices. Specialized video games such as arcade games, while previously common, have gradually declined in use. The input device used to manipulate video games is called a game controller, and varies across platforms. For example, a controller might consist of only a button and a joystick, while another may feature a dozen buttons and one or more joysticks. Early personal computer games often needed a keyboard for game play, or more commonly, required the user to buy a separate joystick with at least one button. Many modern computer games allow or require the player to use a keyboard and a mouse simultaneously. A few of the most common game controllers are gamepads, mouse, keyboards, and joysticks. Video games typically use additional means of providing interactivity and information to the player. Audio is almost universal, using sound reproduction devices, such as speakers and headphones. Other feedback may come via haptic peripherals, such as vibration or force feedback, with vibration sometimes used to simulate force feedback. The present era is the age of modern communication technology is an integral part of youth lives in the twenty first century. The world of electronic media however is changing dramatically; the vast majority of youth have access to multiple media. Most have internet and video game access and a significant portion have cellphones and iPads. Video games have been an important part of our culture (Sherry 2001). The term Video game in the broadcast possible sense is a form of computer based entertainment. Youth play video games for fun with the goal of progressing to the next Level (stage in playing games) and eventually conquering the opponent whether that’s another player or the computer. What’s more the social aspect sharing tactics experiences and explanation helps cement what they have learned. Opportunity for gaming are everywhere and teens are playing video games frequently. Educational video games, handheld device and media production tools can allow young students to see how complex language and other symbols systems attached to the world. From the first rock arrow heads to globe spanning communication network, human have attempted to use technology in improving length and quality of life. Video games are digital entertainment media that utilize both audio and visual channels to capture the audience attention and immense the in the developers vision. In many cases, this involves putting the player in the role of the avatar that interacts with the in game cases. In essence the player is the star of an interactive movie he sees his avatars action portrayed on screen for his entertainment. It logically follows that the aesthetics for video game should attain similar standards to that of a movie, the quality of both visuals and sound should be high. According to Anderson, Buckley and Gentile 2007; Anderson and Bushman 2001: Anderson Carnagey, Flangnan, Benjamin Eubanks and Valentine 2004; Anderson Dill 2000, Experimental and longitudinal and meta-analytic data indicate that playing violent video games increase aggression hostility and aggressive thoughts. According to Hannon, 2007 Epstein, Beeches, Graf and Roemmich 2007. Games with positive content show positive effect. For Example, playing a dancing Video Game can help children lose weight Konami Dance Revolution 2007. Today, sophisticated video games require players to pay constant attention to the game rather than passively watching a movie. This has both positive and negative impact on the player. 1. 2STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM It’s worth thinking about video game habits. If the person does not get more of the substance or behavior, he becomes irritable and miserable. † According to the Report of the Council on Science and Public Health on the topic of Emotional and Behavioral Effects, Including Addictive Potential, of Video Games, (2007) the committee stated that they had engaged in a thorough study of how video games were affecting lives but had insufficient evidence that playing video games for more than two hours per day could be considered an addiction. However, they did recommend that two hours of screen time, television, video games and computers was the maximum amount of time that anyone should have every day. Descriptive Essay - New York City in the Morning -- Descriptive Essay,

A violin song pulls us out of sleep, dreams of trains and pineapples, like a silk rope. He notices the morning light come to the wall. In the city we left only a few days ago, we learned about waking up before dawn, not to the light, but to the stirring that moves the blood in our thighs and hands. The morning was ancient before the sun even rose. Rising early in New York City allows you to hear the birds on the street. When we emerged from the tight doorway leading out of the apartment, I saw that the color of the sidewalk and street matched the tone of the sky. A perfectly unassuming shade to provide backdrop for the yellow taxis and traffic signals. Scuff went out heels of our cowboy boots over the sparkling sidewalk. Sparkling with grit and cement. Maybe to combat the snobbery of c...

migration Essay -- essays research papers

The need to migrate from lower developed countries to developed countries is generally due largely in part to financial reasons. In most cases, the attractiveness of higher wages in urban environments usually outweighs the inconvenience of being away from family members and becoming acclimated in a new environment. In lower developed countries, under-employment is high and the demand for labor is low. As such the problems arises with rural to urban migration. This migration into urban cities is usually an attractive alternative for individuals with low education levels, generally with limited experience in the agricultural sector. Initially at first, an individual may feel uneasy since the risk factor involved with migrating into a different environment is high and the likelihood of finding a job is uncertain. As much of a concern as this may be, the willingness to take this risk and migrate is usually a better alternative than staying in the current environment with insufficient infrastructure with limited job opportunities. The role of government policies also plays a large role in affecting the level of migration into a country. If the government can increase the perceived probability of getter a job sooner, even more people would migrate from the rural sector to the urban sector. This being so, the same would also be true for the opposite scenario. Should the government fail to implement policies that would increase the level of perceived probability, the amount of peo...

Provide two reasons why Medicaid violations do not generally receive media attention Essay

One of the most frequent crimes of the affluent and the high-class of the society is Medicaid fraud. These frauds can be committed by several parties including the recipients and the providers. Medicaid is a government program that utilizes the taxpayer’s money to provide healthcare to the low income groups of the society. It is basically setup to help the weaker sections of the society including individuals above the age of 65, the disabled, the medically compromised and the low-income groups. The nations would be happy if the money is spending to help people in need, but frequently several providers and recipients indulge in fraud and abuse of the funds set aside under Medicaid. Some of the abuses committed by recipients include forging prescription, giving the medical card to another party, using several cards, duplicating or consuming excessive healthcare services, and selling the items received under Medicaid to others. Some of the abuses that can be committed by the providers include providing false bills, duplicating bills, providing unwanted medical care, doing unnecessary tests, billing in excess, compromising the quality of care under Medicaid services, and including the names of others in the bills (NY State, 2006). One of the reasons why Medicaid violations are not given great amount of media attention is because these crimes are usually committed by affluent. These crimes are often great amount of protection and secrecy, so as to gain for profit. In the US, it is estimated that Medicaid fraud cost the nation about forty billion dollars in the year 1993. Usually, a certain person rather than an organization would be involved in committing a Medicaid fraud. The White collar staffs who commit these crimes frequently think that they are above the law. They feel that committing such crimes is justified as it is anyway a part of the system. They would go to any extent to cover their crimes. The media would not like to get involved in covering such events, as they feel that they would later be harassed by the White collared staff. Besides, they also feel that they would not be getting any kind of requests they may have, as the white collared staff would be using their powers to avenge for the media attention given. It is found that the business-minded white collared staffs are more frequently involved in committing Medicaid frauds rather than the professional staff (Cullen, 2008). The media feels that the people who are victims by the crimes of Medicaid fraud are usually not the class who would be customers to their services. They may find that covering such events would not be beneficial to them in anyway, and would instead get them in bad looks with the high-class. The poor, elders and the disabled are less likely to be customers of the media services. They would also not stand up to fight their rights. The beneficiaries of Medicaid frequently are not aware of their rights. They may be often abused or neglected by the healthcare organization which may include the white collared staff. Frequently, the person getting abused may be physically and mentally helpless and would depend on the care provider for help. However, the care giver would be providing low quality healthcare and instead use the funds other Medicaid for other purposes (including gaining profits). Medicaid fraud is a criminal offence and involves abusing taxpayer’s money. It has been set aside for helping the weaker sections of the society, but instead these funds are ending up in the hands of the rich, thus making the rich richer and the poor poorer. At any cost, the media would have to change their policy of reporting cases of Medicaid fraud to the public.

A History of Linux essays

A History of Linux essays A young college student named Linus Torvalds started Linux in 1991. He started this as a hobby based on Minix, a small version of Unix. His goal was to expand on the abilities of Minix and allow for a system that exceeded its capabilities. In 1991 he released version 0.2, the first version of the Linux kernel. He continued work on his project steadily until the release of version 1.0 in 1994. As of January 2001 Linux had reached version 2.4 and it continues to be updated every day. A contest was held to create the Linux logo. It was decided by Linus Torvalds that the mascot would be a penguin. This was decided because it is his favorite animal. During the contest many people entered their versions of what it should look like. Linus went through each of these and did not see anything that represented the operating system well. He felt that the penguin should look very content, not angry or ferocious, or even overly happy, just content. He also felt that it should look like it is slightly overweight so that it looks as if it had just gorged itself on herring. The penguin was to be sitting because he felt that had it just gorged itself the penguin wouldnt want to be standing, it would want to sit down and relax. After many letters from Linus to numerous people the logo was designed to his specifications. The beanbag of joy we now know as TUX was created and sat representing Linux in his own unique way. ...

Sexually Transmitted Diseases Essays - RTT, Free Essays, Term Papers

Sexually Transmitted Diseases Essays - RTT, Free Essays, Term Papers Sexually Transmitted Diseases Sexually Transmitted Diseases: A Teen's Worst Nightmare Sexually transmitted diseases are infectious diseases that can be spread by sexual contact. Some can also be transmitted by non-sexual ways, but these make up a minority of the total number of cases. An estimated ten to twelve million Americans have sexually transmitted diseases. Sexually transmitted diseases in the United States affect both sexes, all races, and every economic stature. STD's come from different sources. Some are epidemic like gonorrhea, infections of the urethra, genital herpes, and genital warts. Some diseases are caused by a bacterium such as Chlamydia, and others are from protozoan or yeast. Many of these infections are transmitted largely by sexual contact with an infected person. The practice of anal and oral sex also lead to cases of anal and oral infections. Gonorrhea, syphilis, and chlamydial infections can also be transmitted from a pregnant woman to her infant, either in the uterus or during birth. Sexually transmitted diseases are very hard to control. So me public officials attribute the increase in many of these diseases to increasing sexual activity. Others say the replacement of the condom with birth control pills and diaphragms might also increase the risk of STD's. Many STD's are transmitted more efficiently from men to women than the reverse, perhaps because the vagina serves as a reservoir that prolongs exposure to infectious secretion (Handsfield 2) The physical examination of patients with STD or at risk is a simple procedure. All patients require inspection of the entire skin surface. At a minimum they carefully inspect all skin surfaces that are uncovered or exposed during genital examination. This includes the face, head, hands, lower arms, lower trunk, pubic area, thighs, mouth and throat. Also checked in men are the genitals and the pubic and inguinal regions, the penis, urethra, urethral bulb, and the scrotum are checked for tenderness and other abnormalities. For homosexually active men, the anus and perineum are carefully inspected. The examination of women includes inspection of the pubis area, the external genitals, perineum and anus, speculum examination of the vaginal mucosa and cervix, and a bimanual pelvic examination (Handsfield 4). A way to avoid STD's and unwanted pregnancies is to use a condom. A condom is a sheath worn over the penis during oral, anal, and vaginal sexual contact (Virginia Tech Health Services). Condoms can be made of latex rubber or animal membrane. Animal membrane condoms prevent pregnancy but have large enough pores for tiny HIV viruses to pass through. Latex condoms are much better in forming a barrier against HIV. Polyurethane condoms haven't been fully tested, so people should avoid using them. Do not use novelty condoms like the ones that glow in the dark, these are not FDA approved. Always check the expiration date. Never use a condom after the date stamped on the wrapper or on the seal. Do not use a condom that has been in a wallet for more than a month. Heat and pressure can damage it. Also, stay away from oil-based lubricants, like Vaseline, which can eat through the latex. And finally, do not open the packet with scissors or your teeth, the condom could rip. Nudge the condom away from the edge and gently tear the packet open. Next to abstinence, which is having no sexual relations at all, condoms are the best protection against STD's. When a condom is used correctly, they are about 90 percent effective in preventing pregnancy, and 95 percent effective when used with spermicide. Spermicide, also called Nonoxynol 9, has been found to be effective in killing the HIV virus in laboratory experiments when used at 5 percent strength. Spermicide immobilizes and kills sperm. It comes in jellies, creams, foams, suppositories, film, and as a coating on condoms. STD's can also be avoided by remaining monogamous. This means only having sex with one person whom only has sex with you. If you know that you are clean of all STD's and that your partner is also clean, then you both can avoid STD's by only being with each other. Chlamydia is a STD caused by the bacterium Chlamydia trachomatis. The bacterium is found in infected body fluids from the penis or vagina and
